AIS Fleet Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Saillogger LLC handles information when you use AIS Fleet. AIS Fleet is a sub-brand of Saillogger.com operated by Saillogger LLC. Saillogger LLC, a Washington State company, is responsible for the information described here.

1. Information we collect

• Account and sign-in information: your e-mail address, required first and last name, account and sign-in times, Terms acceptance, and security records for one-time sign-in codes. Requesting a code may create an account record even if you do not finish signing in.
• Technical and map information: essential cookies, IP address, browser or device information, request times, and activity, including which features your account uses and which vessels it looks up, used for security, troubleshooting, and measuring how AIS Fleet is used. Your location, if you allow it, centers the map and, on aisfleet.com, can fill in a receiver’s position. Your browser or the app stores your last map view. AIS Fleet receives the visible map area to find nearby vessels and, when you search, the map’s center to sort results by distance.
• Vessel and service activity: your vessel association, MMSI, follows, lists and their notes, fleets, boat ownership claims with their documents, and actions in AIS Fleet. Vessel identity and position reports may come from public AIS broadcasts or Saillogger systems, not from you.
• Shared AIS receivers: while sharing is on, the AIS reports a receiver hears, its own position (on a boat, this is your position), and records of when it reported. In the iPhone app, you turn sharing on by adding your first receiver; turn off Share with AIS Fleet to stop it.
• Messages: direct and fleet messages, attachments, reactions, read state, and delivery information.
• Catalog photo contributions: the image, vessel association, optional public photographer credit, an internal uploader name or e-mail snapshot, and metadata in the file, which can include capture time and precise GPS location.
• Plans and purchases: your plan, and records of App Store or website purchases, such as transaction identifiers, status, and renewal dates. Card details stay with Apple or our payment processor.
• Push notifications: if you allow them on iPhone, Apple’s push token for the phone, an identifier the app creates, the app and iOS versions, and the phone’s time zone (so notices stay quiet overnight).
• Connected apps: each connected app’s name, the address that receives its access, when it was connected, and when it last read your account.
• Support and other communications: information you send when asking for help, reporting a problem, disputing a vessel association, or making a legal or privacy request.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

• create and secure accounts, verify purchases, and provide plans, maps, follows, fleets, messages, and photo features;
• link accounts to vessels, review boat ownership claims, and correct inaccurate or disputed associations;
• send sign-in codes, service or moderation notices, and the notices you choose, such as departures and arrivals, by e-mail, in AIS Fleet, or as push notifications;
• prevent abuse, investigate problems, enforce our Terms, and comply with law;
• answer support and privacy requests; and
• understand, maintain, and improve AIS Fleet and related Saillogger services.

AIS reports you contribute from a shared receiver become part of our vessel data. Those reports, accepted AIS vessel catalog photos, and data derived from either may be used in commercial vessel-data products, datasets, and partner integrations, and to develop, train, test, and improve software and models, including artificial-intelligence, machine-learning, and computer-vision systems. The AIS Vessel Photo Contribution Agreement explains those uses. We do not use message content, account information, or photos uploaded outside the AIS vessel catalog contribution flow to train those systems.

Where law requires a reason for using personal information, we rely on providing the service you requested, our reasonable interests in operating and protecting it, your consent where required, or compliance with law.

3. Who can see or receive information

AIS vessel data is broadcast publicly and may appear to signed-in users, including reports contributed from shared receivers. No AIS Fleet surface shows a shared receiver’s name, position, or existence to other members, or says which receiver reported a vessel.

Approved catalog photos may appear publicly on Saillogger or AIS Fleet with their photographer credit, capture time, and location when included.

A public list shows its name, description, vessel notes, and your AIS Fleet name to any signed-in member with its link. Private lists and follows are not shown to others.

Direct messages are shared with the other participant. Fleet messages are shared with current fleet members, including those who join later. E-mail and push notifications may contain message text or image previews, creating copies outside AIS Fleet.

Connected apps and AI assistants. An AI assistant or other app you connect, such as Claude or ChatGPT, can read your account only after you allow it on the AIS Fleet access page, and only what that page lists: your name and plan; your boat and her last position; the boats you follow; your lists, fleets, notices, and receivers; a Saillogger log shared with you; and public vessel information. It cannot change anything or read your messages, your followers, or receiver sign-in details. What it reads is sent to that app and falls under the terms and privacy policy of whoever runs it, not this policy. Apps that other members connect can likewise read what AIS Fleet shows those members.

Authorized Saillogger staff may access information when reasonably needed for support, moderation, security, enforcement, and legal compliance. We also use providers for hosting, storage, e-mail, maps, payments, push notifications, monitoring, security, and support, who receive information only as needed to provide those services.

We may share information when required by law, to protect people or the service, to investigate misuse, at your direction, or in a merger, reorganization, financing, or sale of the relevant business. We do not sell account information or message content.

4. How long we keep information

• Sign-in records: sign-in codes expire shortly after issue; account deletion removes the related records.
• Messages: messages, reactions, and stored attachments are ordinarily removed after 30 days, unread ones included. Cleanup may take time. Other participants, e-mail, screenshots, providers, or backups may keep copies longer.
• Catalog photos: you can delete a pending or published submission from your Photos page. If Saillogger accepted it, the permission already granted remains permanent, and existing derived data is not undone. The internal uploader snapshot may also outlive account closure.
• Shared receiver records: contributed reports become part of our vessel data and are kept with it. Records of what a receiver heard are kept for a short operating window, and removing it deletes them.
• Ownership-claim documents: deleted shortly after upload, whether or not the claim is approved.
• Accounts and operations: account, purchase, push, connected-app, vessel-association, support, security, and legal records are kept while needed to provide and protect the service, resolve disputes, comply with law, and complete backup cycles. An account record created by an unfinished sign-in is removed after a short period.
• Saved map view: your last map view remains in your browser or the app until it is replaced, you clear AIS Fleet’s site data, or you delete the app.

5. Your choices and rights

You can decline location access, clear the saved map view in your browser, turn off push notifications, stop sharing a receiver, choose whether to give photo credit, delete your own catalog photo submissions, and clear a conversation from your view. Clearing a conversation does not delete another participant’s copy.

Disconnecting an app. Choose Disconnect under Connected apps on your Account screen, on aisfleet.com or in the iPhone app. The connected app’s access ends immediately; disconnecting does not remove what it has already read.

Deleting your account. Open Account from the account menu, then Danger zone, Delete account, and Review account deletion. In the iPhone app, open the You tab, then Account, Danger zone, and Delete account. Closure is immediate; permanence follows a short recovery period. Contact us before then to reverse it. Messages keep ordinary retention; accepted catalog photos stay published. Deletion does not cancel App Store plans; cancel them in Apple settings.

Contact [email protected] to ask for access, correction, deletion, objection, restriction, or portability where those rights apply. You may also dispute a vessel association. We may need to verify your identity and may keep information when law or a legitimate operational need allows it. You may complain to your local privacy authority if applicable.

6. Cookies, security, and international processing

AIS Fleet uses essential cookies to keep you signed in and protect requests, and browser or app storage to remember your last map view. We measure how AIS Fleet is used in two ways, neither through a third-party advertising service. Our own web analytics does not set cookies and does not receive your e-mail address or another account identifier. Separately, we keep records of how each account uses the service, such as request counts by feature and which vessels were looked up, to detect and act on misuse and to understand which features matter. Those records are linked to your account and are removed with it. Map and other service providers receive ordinary network information, such as your IP address and browser or device details, when their resources load.

We use reasonable safeguards, but no internet service can promise perfect security. AIS Fleet is operated from the United States, and information may be processed there and in other countries where our providers operate.

7. Children, changes, and contact

AIS Fleet is for people who are at least 18 and able to enter a contract. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information.

We may update this policy as AIS Fleet changes. We will post the new effective date and give reasonable notice of material changes. We will ask for consent when the law requires it.
