All vessel data is contributed by local AIS receiving stations operated by community members. These stations report information about vessels within their reception range. AIS transmissions are public maritime safety broadcasts, and no personally identifiable information beyond what is broadcast by vessels themselves is collected.
The collected data is used to:
Vessel position data is stored to maintain historical vessel tracks and enable analytics. Station reporting metadata (MMSI, UUID, timestamps) is retained to track data provenance and station activity.
AIS data collected by the platform is available to all users through our API and map interface. This data represents publicly broadcast AIS transmissions and is shared in accordance with international maritime safety standards.
